MESOP LATEST : Peshmerga Force Reach Suruc on Turkish – Syrian Border

29.10.2014 – Nuwar Faqie – BasNews, Erbil – After Iraqi Kurdish Peshmerga ground forces entered Turkish soil on Tuesday night, a second group of Peshmerga forces flew from Erbil International Airport to Sanliurfa military airport and reached the Turkish border town of Suruc on Wednesday morning. A source close to Kurdish Peshmerga forces told BasNews that the second Peshmerga force that flew from Erbil was about 70 in number and they are currently in Suruc, waiting to enter the besieged city of Kobani in Syrian Kurdistan.

The anonymous Peshmerga source said that currently the 70 Peshmerga officers are waiting for the Peshmerga ground force thatlast night crossed from the Ibrahim Khalil Iraqi Kurdistan border point in to Turkey and are now on their way to Suruc where they will join and go in to Kobani together. The Peshmerga ground force that entered Turkey late last night numbers about 80 and they entered Turkey in 50 military vehicles carrying small and heavy weapons to support the Kurdish fighters of the YPG in Kobani. BasNews has learned that the YPG fighters are ready to welcome the Peshmerga forces and fight the Islamic State (IS) militants together. The battle has lasted 45 days so far. The Peshmerga forces going in to Kobani is a back up force to the Kurdish fighters of the YPG. The Peshmerga deployment to Kobani comes a week after the Kurdistan Parliament decision to approve the plan to send Peshmerga forces to Syrian Kurdistan. On Tuesday night, the United States welcomed the deployment of the Peshmerga force in to Kobani and said its was a step toward defeating the Islamic State militants in the Kurdish region of Syria.
