MESOP : ERDOGAN’S HOSTAGES – Turkey’s Kurdish DBP party leader detained in Diyarbakir

DIYARBAKIR -11 May 2016 – , Turkey’s Kurdish region,— The co-chair of Turkey’s Democratic Regions Party (DBP) was detained on Tuesday in Turkish Kurdistan, the country’s southeast, as arrests of Kurdish politicians continue.The Dicle News Agency reported that DBP co-chair Kamuran Yuksek was taken into custody in Diyarbakir after leaving the party’s information office. Yuksek’s arrest was ordered by the local prosecutor’s office, according to Dicle. The agency reported that Yuksek was detained by a decision from prosecutor’s office in Diyarbakir.

Turkish security forces and police have arrested several DBP members and district co-chairs in recent months as an armed conflict between the Turkish military and Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) fighters continues in the mainly-Kurdish southeast.A number of DBP Assembly members were detained on April 9 in Diyarbakir after Turkish police raided the party’s office.
