MESOP NEWS “KAZAKHSTAN ESSENTIALS”: Rebels to “Test Russia & Assad”at Political Talks
January 18 – 2017 – By Scott Lucas – eaworldview – Syria’s rebels say that they are attending political talks in Kazakhstan next week to test the commitment of Russia and the Assad regime to a genuine ceasefire and to aid to besieged areas. However, sources close to rebel factions have told EA that they do not expect any regime acceptance and that they do not trust the Russians to seek a resolution. They say the challenge will then be to establish before international opinion that President Assad and his allies are only intent on further destruction, including the ongoing killing and displacement of civilians.The statements echo the comments by a Free Syrian Army official to Reuters, “The factions will go and the first thing they will discuss will be the matter of the ceasefire and the violations by the regime. MESOP FLASH : TEHRAN DICTATES KURDISH REGIONAL GOVERNMENT IN IRAQ (KRG)
17 Jan 2016 – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) of Iraq released a statement denouncing Mohammad Rajabi, the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), for his recent remarks questioning the presence of about 30 international consulates in Arbil. Rajabi had also stated that the Saudi consulate should leave the Kurdistan region. The KRG statement said that “no one is entitled to request that a consulate be closed in Arbil.” The KRG also said that “this isn’t the first time the IRGC commander released such statements that are an unjustified intervention in the internal affairs of the Iraq and Kurdistan region.” More via www.mesop.de
MESOP NEWS : OPEN ROAD FOR YAZIDIS – Yazidi rights organization YAZDA to reopen offices in Iraqi Kurdistan: statement
18 Jan 2017 – DUHOK, Iraq’s Kurdistan region,— The Yazidi rights organization, YAZDA, said in press release on Wednesday that it has reached a deal with Kurdistan Regional Government KRG with regards to reopening YAZDA offices in the Kurdish region. Earlier in January Kurdish authorities in Iraqi Kurdistan have closed the offices of the organization due to involvement in “political activities” which violated regulations on NGO work.
The statement said: “Following a series of positive meetings with concerned parties within the Kurdistan Regional Government “KRG”, a positive result was reached with regards to reopening Yazda facilities and projects in Kurdistan Region of Iraq “KRI” after resolving issues between the two sides. The closure of Yazda’s facilities and projects was due to a misunderstanding and translation of some of Yazda activities as transgression to KRG laws and regulations relates to NGOs.
