Iran- Iraq arms deal denied, Zebari to arrive in Tehran

25-2-2014 – Kurdpress – The Islamic Republic of Iran’s Ambassador to Baghdad Hussein Danaeifar declined reports that an arms deal has been scaled between Tehran and Baghdad governments, with the first side selling weapons to the later.

Speaking with Mehr News agency, Danaeifar declined the report which the US has expressed worry over and stated such an agreement has not been inked between the two sides. If the Iraqis will need arms and ask us to sell them we will consider the request, he added. Releasing a report on Monday, Reuters reported an arms deal worth $195 million has been signed between Iran and Iraq on November. Danaeifar, further revealed Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari will visit Tehran today to discuss with Tehran officials Baghdad- Tehran cooperation in solving the issue of Arvand Rood river “legal issues between the two sides have been finalized and Zebari will discuss implementing agreements with Iranian officials during his two-day stay in Tehran.”
