Fighting between rival rebel factions in northern Syria has continued for a fourth day with major clashes in Raqqa. On Monday, nationalist and fundamentalist factions battling Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) forces retook churches and towns and reportedly released about 50 prisoners. Additionally, the fighters attacked the al Qaeda linked group overnight at its headquarters in Raqqa, which it has controlled for months and, according to some activists, largely evicted ISIL from the city.

7-1-2014 – Bei einem Luftangriff der syrischen Armee auf das Dorf İhris im Gebiet Azzaz bei Aleppo sind mindestens sechs Zivilisten ums Leben gekommen, neun weitere wurden verletzt. Der Luftangriff ereignete sich am 6. Januar gegen 10:00 Uhr Ortszeit. 6-1-2014 – Today 61 members of the Legislative Assembly of the Democratic Autonomous Government of Western Kurdistan met in Amûde where they accepted the “Social Agreement” which will divide the region into 3 cantons. The agreement declares Syria to be a democratic, free and independent country and affirms that all three cantons remain a part of Syria.

George Galloway paid £80k for joining ‘pro-Syria’ TV channel – Bradford West MP presents fortnightly show for al-Mayadeen, allegedly funded by Syria & Iran
THE Respect MP George Galloway has joined an Arabic TV station that is allegedly funded by Iran and Syria. Galloway is set to earn almost £80,000 a year from his latest broadcasting venture, reports The Times. Galloway, who once described President Assad’s regime as “the last bastion of Arab dignity”, has started presenting a fortnightly show, A Free Word, for the Beirut-based broadcaster al-Mayadeen.

Fighting has continued Monday between Syrian rebel groups in the northern Idlib and Aleppo provinces. Clashes were sparked on Friday after residents accused ISIL militants of killing a popular doctor. According to opposition activists, ISIL began pulling out from al-Dana and Atma in Idlib province Sunday, as fighters from al-Nusra Front and Ahrar al-Sham entered. Fighting between ISIL fighters and brigades from the Islamic Front spread into Raqqa and Tal Abyad Sunday night. In Aleppo, ISIL forces threatened to leave the city to government forces unless rival fighters stop their attacks. Meanwhile, the opposition Syrian National Council said it would not participate in the Geneva II peace conference set to begin in Switzerland on January 22, claiming the Assad regime has not been committed to the goals of the original Geneva talks.
