Al-Qamishli: PYD recruits child soldiers
KURDWATCH, February 3, 2014—On January 15, 2014, as part of the mass burial for the fighters for the Democratic Union Party’s (PYD) People’s Defense Units (PYD) who were killed in Tall Hamis and Tall Birak [further information], fifteen-year-old Dalil Riyad Qasim Khalil (b. in al‑Qamishli) was also laid to rest. His official burial by the PYD confirms that the YPG is also recruiting child soldiers.
ʿAmudah: PYD kidnaps activist
KURDWATCH, February 4, 2014—On January 29, 2014, members of the Asayiş, the security service of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), kidnapped Mamduh Muhammad Khalil (b. 1966 in ʿAmudah, married, six children) in ʿAmudah. Khalil is a member of ʿAbdulhakim Bashar’s Kurdish Democratic Party in Syria (el-Partî).
KRG Refuses To Recognize Rojava Cantons

JOSHUA LANDIS – 11.2.2014 – Almost every day on my Twitter feed, I come across allegations that the jihadis operating in Syria- in particular, the Islamic State of Iraq and ash-Sham (ISIS) or “al-Qa’ida” more generally (by which Jabhat al-Nusra is meant as well)- are somehow in secret collaboration with the Assad regime, if not agents and creations of the regime.
Indeed, this theme appears to have been prominent at a Chicago Council event held yesterday. “For the first time in 3 years I hear something that makes sense from experts about Syria. Assad regime is helping al-Qa’ida. We might discover very soon Assad regime coordinating and supporting al-Qa’ida fighters,” tweeted Diana Rudha al-Shammary, covering the event live yesterday.

Homs in Yellow: “We would rather die on our feet”
11 February 2014 -Yellow was the color chosen by the Nashitoun activist group to represent the “last sounding call from the famine-stricken and besieged people of Homs, who have never reneged on their revolution.” And thus was the beginning of the campaign, Yellow Covers the Besieged Neighborhoods of Homs, on January 19, 2014.
On that morning, Homs awoke to the sight of yellow pamphlets everywhere: “Yellow Covers Homs”, “13 neighborhoods under siege since June 9, 2012”, “250 families on the verge of dying of hunger”, “591 days of siege”, “To die of silent starvation is just another massacre of Assad” and “To die of hunger is more painful than to die of chemical weapons”.
