MESOP FLASH : A new weapon on the Syrian battlefield; The BGM-71 TOW, made in the USA?
Sunday, 6 April 2014 – Footage published on the fifth of April 2014 shows a new type of weapon in the rebel’s arsenal; The BGM-71 TOW anti-tank missile.Operated by Harakat Hazm, loyal to Salim Idris and consisting of mostly ex-Kataib Farouq members. the footsge was shot near Heesh, Idlib Governorate, the footage can be found here and here.
The TOW is probably the most popular missile used in the region, which makes tracking the source of these missiles, without the help of serial numbers, extremely hard.
There are a few possible explanations for the origin of these missiles;

Pro-rebel media on Sunday denied reports that Syrian forces had seized a-Ta’aneh hill overlooking the Sheikh Najar industrial area in northern Aleppo, five kilometers east of the Aleppo Central Prison. The pro-government newspaper al-Watan called Saturday’s campaign for a-Ta’aneh an attempt to “break the siege” on the regime-controlled, rebel-encircled facility.

Rojava Report – 6-4-2014 – A group of 12 political parties, organizations and movements in Southern Kurdistan have come together under the umbrella of the Kurdish National Congress (KNK) in order to demonstrate their support for the Rojava Revolution, according to a report from ANHA and carried in Özgür Gündem. KNK co-President Tahir Kemalîzade, speaking at the meeting, said “Kobanê’s resistance is showing freedom’s horizons to the whole of Kurdistan.”

Gysi, als Pfaffe, enthält sich, andere aus seinem Verein sind ganz dagegen: obwohl dies doch wohl ein Fall friedenskompatibler Abrüstung ist, wenn Chemiewaffen vernichtet werden.
Als sie geliefert wurden, protestierte die Linkspartei nicht. Sie war – wie im Fall Iran – gegen jedes Embargo gegenüber ihrem Sportsfreund al Assad. Als vordem die Chemiegranaten einsatzfähig in der Anfal-Offensive Saddam Husseins in den IFA-Militärlastwagen der DDR in den kurdischen Norden transportiert wurden, protestierte die Vorläuferpartei Gysis nicht nur nicht, sondern begrüßte ausdrücklich diesen Akt, da die vertriebenen Kurden nun in Lager unterkommen würden, in denen moderne Elektrifizierung herrsche (Norman Paech). Fortschritt eben !
Zu schade, daß nun die Bundeswehr die toxischen Waffen vernichtet. Sie waren doch so lange sicher und gut und ohne allen Protest in den Händen des Antiimperialistischen Assad. Der wohnt obendrein genau gegenüber von Israel: wofür sie auch gedacht waren. Da wäre ja auch wirklich jeder Protest grundfalsch gewesen! Guy Debord
MESOP Syria Daily: Insurgents Retake Tower 45 in Latakia Offensive

Insurgents reclaimed the Tower 45 hilltop in northern Latakia Province in western Syria on Friday, less than 24 hours after it was occupied by regime forces. Opposition fighters had taken Tower 45, which overlooks villages near the Turkish border, at the start of their offensive two weeks ago. The Syrian military moved in reinforcements for a series of counter-attacks, and finally put troops on the hilltop on Thursday.
