“Islamischer Staat” in Syrien – Offenbar einzelne IS-Fahnen in Kobane

Aus der umkämpften kurdischen Stadt Kobane gibt es widersprüchliche Meldungen. Ein Mitarbeiter der Nachrichtenagentur AFP fotografierte zwei Fahnen der Terrormiliz “Islamischer Staat” (IS), die nach seinen Angaben im Osten der Stadt gehisst wurden. Auch der Chef der selbst ernannten Regionalregierung von Kobane sprach von einer schwarzen Fahne an einem mehrstöckigen verlassenen Wohngebäude am östlichen Rand der Stadt.
ARD-Korrespondent Martin Weiss berichtete ebenfalls von den einzelnen IS-Fahnen in Kobane, etwa am Gebäude des Fernsehsenders. Die IS habe damit ein Symbol gesetzt: “Wir sind in der Stadt”.

By Mitchell Prothero – McCLATCHY – 6-10-2014 – IRBIL, Iraq — A former French intelligence officer who defected to al Qaida was among the targets of the first wave of U.S. air strikes in Syria last month, according to people familiar with the defector’s movements and identity.Two European intelligence officials described the former French officer as the highest ranking defector ever to go over to the terrorist group and called his defection one of the most dangerous developments in the West’s long confrontation with al Qaida.

According to the Turkish newspapers Radikal and Hürriyet Muslim has been urged by the Turkish intelligence authorities to bring his forces under the ranks of the Free Syrian Army.Muslim attended a lengthy meeting with Turkish intelligence officials Saturday about the ongoing Islamic State (IS) siege of the Kobani canton in Kurdish area of Syria, also known as Rojava.During the meeting in Ankara, the PYD leader was urged to “take an open stance against the Syrian regime” and join the ranks of the Free Syrian Army against President Bashar al-Assad.The meeting was closed to the press, but during a press conference in the Danish parliament the day before, Muslim denied that the PYD and the country’s regime have an alliance and a tacit agreement not to attack each other.

by Mutlu Çiviroğlu – According to sources inside Kobani, as if October 6 7:30am UTC the city is still under the YPG control. City center was shelled all day on Sunday by the tanks stationed on south of the hill which is under ISIS control.Civilians death and injuries were reported although the exact numbers are not known.Contrary to what is widely reported, there are still many civilians in the city. Ayse Efendi, Cochair of Kobane Council and the wife of PYD leader Salih Muslim estimates there are 10-15 thousand civilians still in the city. Kobane Defense Minister Ismet S. Hasan says heavy fighting especially continued near Mistanour Hill.

5-10-2014 – MIDDLE EAST EYE – Kurdish fighters supported by US-led air strikes held back Islamic State militants attacking a Syrian border town Saturday. Dozens of fighters from IS, which has seized large parts of Syria and Iraq, were reported killed in the latest coalition raids. The dusty town of Kobane on the Turkish border has become a key battleground between IS and its opponents, who include Kurdish fighters as well as the United States and its allies. The US military said four air strikes hit the area overnight.
