MESOP Analysis: The fall of Kobane and its consequences /By David Barchard (MIDDLE EAST EYE)

Despite pledging to stop an IS advance at Kobane, Turkey has done nothing. The city’s fall on Monday will cause extensive strategic and political fall out, writes David Barchard.Tuesday 7 October 2014 7:30 BST – Desperate sieges in which heroic defenders are slaughtered to the last man and woman, but whose story then fires the imagination and militancy of later generations, are part of many national histories: the Alamo in Texas in 1838; the explosion at Arkadi Monastery in Crete in 1866; the Easter Rising in Dublin in 1916.

MESOP LATEST : Current Situation in Kobanê! | 00:00 am / COALITION BOMBS ISIS SUCCESSFUL

Kazim Kizil – Clashes have become heavier at night. Warplanes of coalition powers have made air bombardment to ISIS side (3 or 4 times after 00.00). However how effective these bombardments are and how much it was made to the direct position are unknown, after the bombardment the sounds of clashes have stopped. At 1:45 a.m. when I wrote this message, flights have been proceeding…

Additionally, ISIS members that had entered the suburbs of Kobanê from the eastern front had to retreat because they fell into the trap that had been set by YPG (People’s Protection Units) fighters. This is one of the good news about today.

It is true that there have been a mobility towards the border, however, there is not a mass movement. Also the information that Turkish soldiers have left the border is DEFINITELY and CERTAINLY WRONG!

Near Etmanek on the border line, soldiers are patrolling constantly. There are also Turkish Armed Forces (TAF/ TSK) tanks at the hills across the Mürşitpınar border gate. Likewise, at a distance of almost 500 meters to Mürşitpınar gate, soldiers have been waiting with their armoured and water cannon vehicles…

Kurds here close to border staring at night sky, hoping very much for airstrikes. But seems too little too late, ISIS already inside Kobane.

MESOP : SYRIAN OPPOSITION DIVIDED ON INTERNATIONAL ANTI TERROR COALITION / MEMRI 1122

October 6, 2014
Inquiry & Analysis Series Report No.1122

Introduction U.S. President Obama’s decision to establish an international coalition to combat terrorist organizations, particularly the Islamic State (ISIS), met with mixed responses within the Syrian opposition; these responses ranged from qualified appreciation for the decision to strong objection to it. The National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces (NC), led by Hadi Al-Bahra, welcomed the decision, and even called for hastening its implementation, in light of the dire humanitarian situation in ISIS-controlled areas. However, the NC stressed that the international coalition must also attack the forces of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, stating that he is the root cause of the terrorism. In contrast, another NC member, the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood (MB), which, although it is part of this coalition, strongly opposed Western military action against ISIS in Syria, fearing that this international coalition’s real agenda was to fight Sunni Islam.
