Islamic State enters Kobane – October 7, 2014 ARA News  Kobane, Syria – Wounded fighters from the Kurdish forces of the Popular Protection Units (YPG) in the city of Kobane, northern Syria, confirmed that the YPG withdrew from most of the city’s neighbourhoods on Monday’s evening.

The Islamic State group (IS/ISIS), an al-Qaeda offshoot, carried out two car bomb attacks on Monday afternoon in the eastern neighbourhoods of Kobane, followed by IS militants’ advancement towards the city center, where violent clashes took place between them and the Kurdish defending forces. The Kurdish forces withdrew from most of the city’s neighborhoods, a YPG military source told ARA News.

Hundreds of Kurds gathered at the border crossing of Murshid Pinar with Turkey on Monday afternoon, but the Turkish authorities prevented their entry for hours, finally allowing them to cross in the evening.

Local sources told ARA News that all employees and officials of the Auto-Administration (linked to the Democratic Union Party ‘PYD’) –who used to run the area– left the city of Kobane and had crossed into Turkey, following the unprecedented progress of IS militants towards the city. Meanwhile, dozens of YPG fighters remained trapped in their positions in the city of Kobane, a YPG-linked source said.  Notably, the Turkish city of Suruc is witnessing intensive movement of ambulances transferring the wounded Kurds to hospitals amid calls for blood donation.  Reporting by: Jan Ali Source: ARA News
