MESOP : PYD/PKK = CLOSE EXCELLENT COLLABORATION NOW WITH “WESTERN IMPERIALIST” FORCES
YPG Spokesman Can: We are Working with the Coalition against ISIS
Can we say there is an official relation between the YPG and the coalition?
Yes, we are acting in concert with international coalition forces. We are in direct contact with them, in terms of intelligence, on a military level, and in terms of air strikes.
I guess the coordinates for the airstrikes are coming from you then?
Yes. One of our special units in Kobane gives us coordinates, and the YPG transmits these coordinates to coalition forces, and then air strikes are directly realized. I would also like to mention that we also benefitted from the assistance of certain Kurdish factions, and this assistance is ongoing. http://civiroglu.net/2014/10/14/ypg_usa/

MESOP TODAY’S SYRIA RESSOURCE PERSONS : Obama to Meet With Anti-ISIS Coalition
“Mr Obama needs to face up to two things. First, most of the coalition wants to see the back of Mr Assad: his serial brutalities against his own people have appalled Sunnis everywhere. Second, the fight against IS cannot succeed without competent troops on the ground to guide coalition aircraft to their targets, pursue enemy leaders and take and hold territory,” writes the Economist.
“What is happening now is a classic problem of diplomacy: a mismatch between means and ends. President Obama wants to destroy ISIS and save the Kurds (and the Yazidi religious minority, and the Iraqi government in Baghdad), but he is willing to do no more than drop bombs. What happens when dropping bombs isn’t enough?” writes Dexter Filkins in the New Yorker.
“We will defeat [ISIS] militarily by cutting off the flow of resources they receive —that’s external financing, foreign fighters, logistic materiel, it’s their ability to access the oil markets with oil they control. We will defeat them by challenging and undermining their ideology, because you can’t bomb an ideology out of existence, you have to challenge it and argue it out of existence. And we will defeat it in Iraq by good governance,” said British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond in an interview with Global Post.

MESOP FACING KOBANE : TODAY’S OVERVIEW (II) / DIVIDING WEST KURDISTAN / THE ISIS FOCUS – “DYING FOR A SYMBOL”!?
Gharib Hassou interviewd by Stéphane Aubouard (L’Humanité – Magazin of French Communist Party) / GH is representative of the Democratic Union Party (Partiya Yekitiya Demokrat, PYD) in Iraqi Kurdistan Region.
October 14, 2014 – ERBIL-Hewlêr : Why is the conquest of Kobani so important for Islamic State IS?
Gharib Hassou: Because the town’s position is strategic. If IS succeed in seizing it, it would divide the two other Syrian Kurdish districts of Afrin and Jazeera, which would weaken our resistance while enlarging its own borders. But beyond that strategic dimension, there is a symbolic aspect too, for it was in Kobani that we started the revolution in 2012. So IS wants to demoralise the Syrian Kurds by getting hold of that important symbol.
