US Airstrikes Kobani in return of PYD cutting ties with Assad regime / Airstrikes In Return for PYD Leaving Syrian Regime
14.10.2014 – Hemin Salih – BasNews, Erbil – The Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) has promised to part ways with the Syrian regime and open Syrian Kurdistan up to all Kurdish political parties.
Spokesman for the Kurdish United Party in Syrian Kurdistan, Nawaf Rashid, doesn’t hide the fact that one of the conditions of support from the international community for Syrian Kurds is that the PYD must cut ties with the Assad government. Rashid told BasNews that alliance forces currently attacking Islamic State (IS) militants in Iraq and Syria have asked them to split from Damascus and form a joint force. They want them to become a member of the Syrian opposition on a political as well as a security level.
“The visit of Salih Muslim (PYD leader) and his meeting with Barzani is an important step toward the formation of a joint force. This is the most condition of the US led coalition – the force has to be separate from the Syrian regime and a part of the Syrian opposition,” said Rashid. It’s expected that Muslim will meet the Kurdistan Region President Massuad Barzani today (Tuesday 14th October) and talk about KRG military assistance for PYD and Kurdish fighters in Syrian Kurdistan, known as Rojava.
According to a well-placed BasNews source, Barzani has ordered that weapons given to Peshmerga forces be sent to the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) currently fighting the extremist group. Additionally, Kurdish Peshmerga Ministry spokesman, Halgord Hikmat told BasNews that in the near future they would reveal details of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq’s military support for Syrian Kurdistan. In the recent weeks, with Islamic State attacking Kobani in northern Syria, Kurdish parties in Iraq and Syria have become closer, with Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani saying last week that they have sent weapons to PYD.
