Three countries, including US, condemn PKK attacks on KRG security forces—ongoing since Sinjar agreement

WASHINGTON DC (Kurdistan 24) – Over the past week, three countries, including the US, issued statements sharply critical of the recent assaults by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on the security forces of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG): the US, France, and Iraq.
The US statement made a particular point of describing the PKK as a “terrorist” organization, a point also made in the French denunciation of the assaults.

- Nov 2020 – IRAQ OIL REPORT – Military conflict is escalating near oil fields in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region. Multiple security officials in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) said that on Wednesday an IED planted by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) killed at least one Peshmerga, and ensuing shooting injured several others. The PKK denied this version of events, which took place near two oil fields in Dohuk province that produce 15 percent of the oil under KRG control

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – 5 Nov 2020 – The Iraqi government has condemned the attack on the Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga forces by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), calling it an “attack on Iraq’s sovereignty.” The incident left one Peshmerga martyred and two injured.

Die Bemühungen, einen Krieg zwischen PDK und PKK abzuwenden, laufen auf Hochtouren. Der Kurdistan Nationalkongress hat nach dem PDK-Angriff auf ein Guerillacamp in Gare in einer Dringlichkeitssitzung einen Krisentisch eingerichtet.
- ANF BRÜSSEL Donnerstag, 5 Nov 2020, 08:15 – Die südkurdische Regierungspartei PDK hat am Mittwoch ein Guerillacamp in der südkurdischen Region Gare angegriffen. Nur dem besonnenen Handeln der Guerilla ist es zu verdanken, dass eine weitere Eskalation vermieden wurde. Peschmerga der PDK (Demokratische Partei Kurdistans) hatten versucht, mit Panzerfahrzeugen in ein Guerillacamp einzudringen.
- Die Guerilla konnte den Angriffsversuch durch zwei Detonationen stoppen. Die PDK agiert als verlängerter Arm des türkischen Staates in Südkurdistan. Währenddessen versuchen kurdische Organisationen und Parteien, allen voran das breite Bündnis des Kurdistan Nationalkongresses (Kongreya Neteweyî ya Kurdistanê, KNK), die PDK von diesem Weg abzubringen.

PKK attack on Peshmerga ‘violation of Kurdistan Region’: KRG
Halgurd Sherwani | ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKK) attack on Peshmerga forces is a violation of the Kurdistan Region and its legitimate institutions, a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on Wednesday said, as it “strongly condemned” the attack that left one Peshmerga martyred and others injured.
The KRG stated its official stance during a regular session of the council of ministers held in Erbil on Wednesday, in which measures against the coronavirus pandemic as well as the functions of security companies in the region were discussed.
On Wednesday morning, a convoy of Kurdistan Region Peshmerga forces came under attack by PKK militants in the Chamalke district in Duhok province following a roadside bomb that exploded next to the KRG forces. The attack resulted in one death and three injuries, the district’s mayor, Aland Amir, told Kurdistan 24.

PDK stationiert „Präsidialgarde“ in Duhok
Die PDK stationiert weitere Barzanî-treue Spezialeinheiten in der Nähe der Guerillagebiete. So wurde die Präsidialgarde nun in die Dörfer in der Umgebung von Dihok verlegt. Die PDK steuert auf einen Bürgerkrieg im Dienste der Türkei zu.

Die PDK verlegte die Spezialeinheit „Mekteba Serok“, was etwa dem Begriff „Präsidialgarde“ entspricht, in Dörfer in der Umgebung von Dihok.

Since taking office, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi has faced a series of fiscal and security crises amid collapsing public services and protests. The collapse in global oil prices due to the coronavirus pandemic and the Saudi-Russia oil price war caused Iraq to face an internal solvency crisis as early as June. This fiscal crisis has short and long-term implications. In the short-term, Baghdad continuously struggles to pay public sector salaries, which required the state to borrow from the Central Bank over the summer. With low oil revenue, the state’s monthly profits are covering just over 50 percent of its expenses. In the longer-term, Iraq faces a looming macro-fiscal state collapse—potentially within the next year.

PKK must end occupation of Kurdistan Region’s border areas: Masoud Barzani
Hiwa Shilani | KURDISTA24 2 Nov 2020 – ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Senior Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani on Monday called on Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) fighters to leave the Kurdistan Region’s border areas to prevent further escalation with Turkey.
Since mid-June, the border areas in the Kurdistan Region have turned into an open battlefield between the Turkish army and the PKK fighters, a conflict that has resulted in a number of human casualties and substatial material losses.
