, 14.07.2019: Successful “Big Jump” actions for Hasankeyf and Tigris River!
Reistance continues against Ilisu Dam!

Following a call by the Initiative to Keep Alive (HYG) and the Mesopotamia Ecology Movement (MEM) for the “Big Jump” ecology activists in Hasankeyf, Turkey and the world protested the controversial Ilisu Dam on the 14th of July. This action day (“Big Jump” is an int’l action day since 2002) is the continuation of the growing activities of the last 1,5 months against the Ilisu Dam which is almost ready for the filling of its reservoir. So in the actions in more than 25 places the participants requested the immediate stop of the mega dam which would also devastate the Tigris region along the Tigris also in Iraq.

Amberin Zaman July 10, 2019 –  Article Summary – al monitor  – US envoy for Syria Jim Jeffrey tells the German Marshall Fund that a residual force of US troops will be staying in northeastern Syria for an “indeterminate time”; this decision appears to have been made in part to protect the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units from Turkey. As Turkey and the United States continue to spar over the imminent arrival of Russian made S-400 missiles on Turkish soil, and more recently over Turkish moves in the eastern Mediterranean, a long-running quarrel over US support for Kurdish militants in Syria seems to have been put on the back burner — for now.

New Kurdish peace process to be launched in September – report

AHVAL NEWS  5 July 2019 – A new peace process will be launched on September 1 to resolve Turkey’s decades-long Kurdish conflict with the United States and the Kurdistan Regional Government acting as guarantors, according to İlhami Işık, a Kurdish man who reportedly has brokered several talks between Turkish officials and the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in the past.

Işık told independent online news channel Medyascope on Thursday that the new process would be totally different from those in the past, as domestic, regional, and international dynamics had changed significantly since 2015.
