Nrttv.com – 24 July 2016 HEWLÊR-Erbil, Kurdistan region ‘Iraq’,— Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is seeking to put 25 Kurdish individuals on trial for alleged links, including funding, to the Islamic State (IS) militant group. The 25, all residents of Europe, are said to have shown their support of IS via social media. The locations of ten of the 25 are known, the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs Spokesman Mariwan Naqshbandi told NRT on Saturday.

Naqshbani said the suspects will be charged by the KRG for providing material support and resources to IS by allegedly collecting zakat funds (charity).A KRG committee formed to tackle radical ideology is working to put the 25 Kurdish individuals on trial through the foreign relations department.Naqshbandi said on June 15 it has been one year since a Kurd had joined IS from Iraqi Kurdistan.

There have been about 500 people identified as Kurds, between the ages of 13 and 25, who have joined IS, of whom 300 were killed and 150 returned to the Kurdistan Region, since the eruption of the Islamic State. “About 150 of those who joined IS have returned to the Kurdistan Region, most of whom are under surveillance or under detention,” Naqshbandi said. “Some of those who returned have been freed and are living a normal life.” www.mesop.de
