Syrian Army Storms ISIS-Held Palmyra
24 March 2016 – Syrian forces entered the ancient city of Palmyra on Thurday, after months of control by ISIS fighters. “We might witness in the next 48 hours an overwhelming victory in Palmyra,” Gov. Talal Barazi told reporters, adding that “the army is advancing in a precise and organized way to protect what is possible of monuments and archaeological sites.” A victory would put an end to the stream of graphic photos of the destruction of Palmyra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, that have shocked the world. Gen. Alexander Dvornikov, who commanded the Russian military in Syria, said in an interview with the government daily Rossiyskaya Gazeta released Wednesday that special forces soldiers have conducted intelligence to pinpoint targets for Russian airstrikes in Syria. He said they also have helped direct aircraft during their missions and carried out other unspecified tasks.Dvornikov didn’t say how many special forces soldiers have been deployed to Syria. MESOP : INTEL – aq’s Interior Minister: Fake Bomb Detectors Fiasco
Posted: 23 Mar 2016 07:19 AM PDT – The Independent’s Patrick Cockburn recently interviewedIraq’s Interior Minister Mohammed Ghabban, and discussed the ADE-651 bomb detectors. The minister admitted that the 651s were a sign of the corruption within the government, which undermined the country’s security. Ghabban went on to say that officials who took bribes to buy the devices are blocking any investigation into the incident. Jim McCormick who manufactured the 651s was convictedof fraud over them in an English court in 2013. During his trial it was revealed that the 651s had no working parts. The antenna that was supposed to point towards bombs was not connected to anything. Likewise the data card that was inserted did not do anything. Iraq’s Interior Ministry conducted its own investigation and found that 75% of the money spent on the devices actually went to kickbacks to Ministry officials. During his trial McCormick corroborated that when he admitted to paying bribes to Iraqis. Despite all this, Minister Ghabban didn’t explain why the ADE-651s are still being used in Iraq. In February for example, the head of the Baghdad Operations Command claimedthat they worked 30-40% of the time, showing that members of the Iraqi government were still unwilling to admit their mistakes.

Teachers asking for peace threatened by the Ministry of EducationAccording to the internet daily Radikal, the Istanbul Directorate of the Turkish Ministry of Education demanded the names of teachers who participated in the pro-peace demonstrations organized by the Labor Union of Teachers last December.
