This week at the Tel Aviv airport: Soheil Khoury left Israel decades ago and built a life in Germany. He explains why he no longer thinks of moving back, and how his ‘spiritual father’ changed his life

Soheil Khoury, 61; lives in Warburg, Germany, flying to Frankfurt

Hi Soheil. How did you decide to move to Germany?

When I was 21, I was working for Mercedes-Benz in Haifa. They recommended that I continue my studies there after I completed my university studies here. I took business administration here, and in Germany I studied organizational consulting, which is what I work in – I have a company. I’ve lived there for 39 years.
