MENA WATCH INTEL AL QAEDA & SYRIA

If Western governments took “counter-radicalisation/extremism” seriously, the last thing they would allow is a Taliban-Qaeda takeover of Afghanistan. Whatever marginal benefits “CVE” has brought have all been swamped by the number of jihadists inspired and mobilised by this.

The problem with the ideology of “counter-extremism” and its “counter-narratives” is reality. As in #Syria, where basically the only force that came to assist a population under assault was Al-Qaeda, you can’t talk people into not noticing the jihadist triumph in #Afghanistan.

Underlying the whole “counter-extremism” thesis is the problem of treating “radicalisation” like a medical problem that people catch, rather than as a series of decisions made about values and belief that can’t be undone by a government scheme explaining that they are Bad.
