Gorran member and fierce critic of KDP, joins Barzani’s party, urges others to do so

SULAIMANI, Iraqi Kurdistan region,— Abdulla Kwexa Mubarak, a long-time member of the Change (Gorran) Movement and a fierce critic of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), confirmed his defection to the Barzani’s KDP on Sunday.

During a press conference announcing his controversial switch, Mubarak said that “the KDP is a loyal party towards its members and supporters and has embraced us.”

Since news leaked of his decision several days ago, some observers have accused him of hypocrisy, given his previous outspoken comments about the KDP, and argued that he was co-opted by the party.

Mubarak denied that was the case during his appearance, flanked by his new party colleagues.

“We didn’t sell ourselves for money or posts and we didn’t talk about these things with the KDP, our goal after contacting the KDP goes to systematizing and solving the crisis,” he said.

“The representatives of the KDP in government are honest and serious. They are serious about defending Kirkuk,” he added.

He urged his relatives to join him in his switch.

According to observers and analysts dozens of Gorran politicians have left the movement and joint KDP party or bought by the Barzanis like Rebaz Mohammed Hamlan, Ali Hama Salih, Massoud Haider Haji Rostem and many others.
