We are mulling Geneva meeting, Sieda tells Kurdpress

29.5.2013 – Kurdpress – The Kurdish member of opposition Syria National Council (KNC) said the council has not decided on attending in the upcoming Geneva meeting, aiming to find a way to halt the civil war in Syria.

“We had long meetings in the last days and are discussing important issues including organizing the opposition parties and Geneva meeting. We are continuing negotiations but have not made a final decision,” Abdulbaset Sieda, also the former leader of KNC, told Kurdpress. Answering a question about political developments in Syria and the relation between the council and the Kurdish parties, Sieda said they are in contact and currently there is proper base to boost ties.

“None of the Kurdish parties are seeking independence and the KNC members have a plain understanding of the demands of the Kurds,” added Sieda who said the council will never accept Syria president Bashar al-Assad’s participation in the next presidential election of the country.
