The Syrian Coalition Condemns Russia’s Veto of the Security Council Resolution

Media Statement – Syrian Coalition – Istanbul, Turkey – June 03, 2013

Russia has exercised its veto power to block a resolution condemning Assad and Hezbollah’s blockade and attack on Qusair. Consequently, Russia has caused a threat to the lives of tens of thousands of innocent civilians living in the region. By exercising veto power, the Russian government confirms its support of the Assad regime. This action is consistent with Russia’s role of supplying weapons to suppress and kill innocent Syrians, and further the destruction of Syria.

The Syrian Coalition condemns Russia’s position, which stands against the Syrian people, their freedom and their security. The Coalition denounces the numerous decisions by the Russian government, which continuously align Russia with Assad. As a result, Russia has become a partner in the murder of innocent Syrian civilians.

Russia’s role in supporting Assad’s crimes throughout Syrian cities and villages has made its involvement in this conflict clear. The Syrian Coalition believes that these actions should deny Russia a serious role in building an effective political solution to stop the bloodshed and work towards the Syrian people’s aspirations. While Russia is complicit with the destruction of the Syrian people’s precious heritage, they will never prevent the Syrian people from achieving their aspirations. The Syrian people have decided to rise up against tyranny and fight for their freedom and shall continue this revolt to the end.

We ask for mercy for our martyrs, health for our wounded, and freedom for our detainees.

Long live Syria and its people, free and with honor.
