PM’s advisor: Democratic negotiations will be next step in solution process

31 May 2013 /SEVGİ AKARÇEŞME, İSTANBUL – Zaman – One of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s chief advisors and an Ankara deputy, Yalçın Akdoğan, said on Friday that the settlement process will be followed by democratic negotiations with the inclusion of all democratic actors.

Delivering a keynote speech at a panel at İstanbul Şehir University on the 10-year evaluation of the Justice and Development Party’s (AK Party) performance, Akdoğan said that the negotiations in the solution process will not be secret. Akdoğan noted that the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) ending terrorist attacks and withdrawing from Turkish territory is under way, as well as Turkey’s efforts for more democratization.

According to Akdoğan, it is the AK Party that took most of the steps in the Kurdish issue and it will continue to do so regardless of the outcome of the settlement process for the well-being of the country’s Kurdish citizens. “This is our moral obligation,” Akdoğan said. In his opinion, people of the region were stuck between a repressive state and a repressive terrorist organization in the past. However, today, due to normalization, there is a Turkey that is shown as an example to countries in the Arab World. “We cannot meet our 2023 goals with such a burden,” Akdoğan further said, referring to the Kurdish problem.

However, according to Akdoğan, there are forces that do not want the elimination of the PKK and the recent developments in the axis of Syria-Iran and Iraq constitute a risk in terms of the solution process.

As far as Syria is concerned, Akdoğan claims that big powers are playing a chess game at the expense of Syria while people continue to die in the neighboring country. http://www.todayszaman.com/news-317060-pms-advisor-democratic-negotiations-will-be-next-step-in-solution-process.html
