Talabani re-elected Socialist International Vice President for ME

ERBIL, Aug.31 (AKnews)- Iraq’s President Jalal Talabani was elected today for the second successive term as Vice for the Socialist International (SI) President in the Middle East, PUK media reported today. PUK media, the official website of Talabani’s Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), said that Talabani won 75 votes and was reelected to the position unrivaled in the second day of Socialist International Conference in Cape Town.

Last Thursday, former Greek Prime Minister Georgios Papandreou was reelected president of SI for a new four-year term. Ségolène Royal (ex-presidential candidate of France), Elio di Rupo (Belgian Prime Minister), Victor Ponta (Romanian Prime Minister) and Jacob Zuma (President of South Africa) were also elected to the SI vice presidency , a total of 32 vice presidents from around the world. Luis Ayala was also elected as the general secretary of the organization.
