Syrian Kurdish Militants End Truce With Al-Qaida-linked Groups

12.8.2013 – Joseph A. Cambra – nzweek. Com – Syria’s Kurdish armed militants announced Sunday the end of truce with the Al-Qaida-linked rebel groups in Kurdish-dominated areas in northern Syria after the later attacked Kurdish populated areas.

According to a statement issued Sunday, the People’s Protection Units (YPG) said its troops had committed to a truce with Al-Qaida- linked Nusra Front and other extreme groups in northern Syria during the three-day Muslim Eid al-Fitr feast which started on Thursday. While stressing its commitment to the truce, the YPG said that “the powers of darkness represented by the Nusra Front and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant have continued their war over the three days and attacked Kurdish populated areas with assorted weaponries, and they ended up staging suicide bombing in areas that are inhabited with civilians.”

In the statement, the YPG, which has been formed to protect the Kurds, said that radical rebels were trying to stir an Arab- Kurdish racist war in the northern region on ethnic and national bases, adding that “The Islamic battalions are working to sow the seeds of division and disintegration between the sons of the homeland and to keep up the overwhelming chaos that threatens the entire country, not only the regime.”

Furthermore, the YPG threatened that it would return all of the attacks that the Kurds have suffered from the radical groups, stressing that “we are confident that we can protect ourselves and defeat all of the obscurantist invaders and conspirators.”
