SOUTH KURDISTAN (IRAQ) : First round of Kurdistan Region parliament election ends with 94% participation

21.9.2013 – Kurdpress – The first round of the Kurdistan Region’s parliament election, set for the security forces, ended on Thursday with the participation of about 94% of the eligible voters, PUKmedia reported.

The special ballot ended at 6 pm after an extension for an hour. Tens of thousands of security forces cast their ballots on Thursday in the run-up to the September 21 vote. The election is the fourth in the self-ruled Kurdistan since 1992. Meqdad al-Shuraifi from the Independent High Electoral Commission said in a press conference that 93, 9% present of the security forces had voted in Kurdistan Parliamentary elections, clarifying that 95, 6% present in Sulaymaniya, 91, 5% in Dohuk, 93,7% in Erbil and in Kirkuk, Nineveh and Baghdad voting present had reached (92-95%). The number of security forces who voted is 144.434 of the 154.739, al-Shuraifi said, adding that the voting percentage is a success for the self-ruling region.
