SNC leader to meet Kurdish leaders

18.7.2013 – Kurdpress – The Syria National Council (SNC) new leader Ahmad Asi al- Jabra is due to meet the country’s Kurdish officials in order to find a solution to the Kurdish issue in the war- torn country.

Speaking to Kurdpress, Syrian Kurdish physician, political activist and a member of Syria Kurds National Council (KNC), Behzad Ibrahim said Kurdish officials have met Jabra in Istanbul a few days ago. He said the meeting had been held at a friendly atmosphere and Jabra is well aware of the demands of the Kurds as he has been born in Syrian biggest Kurdish city of Qamishlo.

“He has a good understanding of the demands of the Kurds. It’s time for our demands to be fulfilled,” Ibrahim said, adding that Jabra has promised to hold a meeting with Kurdish leaders to trade ideas on “Syria revolution and the role of Kurds in the country’s developments.”   Answering a question about Jabra’s recent remark on visiting Erbil to meet Iraqi Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani in order to discuss the situation of Syria Kurds, Ibrahim denied any links between the two upcoming meetings and underlined the Syrian Kurds will decide their fate in Qamishlo not Erbil.“Kak Massoud (the way Kurds address Barzani) is our older brother. But the Syria Kurdish parties’ decisions are related to themselves and we have therefore decided to hold a meeting with Jabra in Istanbul till the middle of Ramadan,” he said. “The meeting was due to be in Cairo but the plans changed and the meeting would be in Cairo.” He further added no Syria opposition leader has focused on the Kurds’ demands since the beginning of Syria conflict.
