TARAF INTERVIEW : Muslim talked about his personal life, stating that he is a strong believer in Islam.

Salih Muslim: I have performed Hajj twice & Umrah 50 times (!)

Mewan Dolamari – BasNews (Erbil): 9-12-2013 – Salih Muslim, head of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), said he is a dedicated Muslim, and has performed Hajj twice and Umrah 50 times.

Umrah is a pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and can be carried out at any time of the year. Hajj only occurs from the the 8th to the 12th of Dhu al-Hijjah, the 12th and last month of the Islamic calendar. In an interview with Turkish journalist Amberin Zaman, for Turkish newspaper Taraf, Muslim talked about his personal life, stating that he is a strong believer in Islam.   “My father had four wives, my mother was the middle wife, so imagine how many brothers and sisters I have. We belong to different clans of the same tribe as Ocalan (the Kurdistan Workers’ Party jailed leader), called Barazi,” said Muslim.

Although the head of PYD often reiterates that they have no affiliations to the PKK, Muslim first met Ocalan in Beirut in the 1980s and later lived with the jailed leader in the Damascus and Aleppo provinces of Syria. Muslim also spoke of his marriage: “my marriage to Ayesha Fandi was arranged. At the time I was looking for a woman who was not too ugly and not too beautiful, the only condition I had was that she not be from a lower class than my own.’
