PYD a threat to Turkey: Ahmet Davutoglu

11-1-2014 – MESOP – Turkey Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu stated that the Syria pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party (PYD) is a threat to Ankara.

Speaking to Anadolu news agency, the Turkish FM stated the Al-Qaeda, the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (ISIS) and the PYD, a political offshoot of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, all posed threats to Turkey.

The minister also warned of starvation in Syria, saying some 15 Syrian people had died of hunger. While the Syrian National Coalition is yet to make a decision officially whether to participate in the upcoming international peace conference in Montreux, Davutoglu said head of the Syrian National Coalition, Ahmed al-Jarba would take part in peace talks. Both Al-Qaeda and the Assad regime not only benefit from each other but also support each other, says Davutoglu. He further added the existence of Al-Qaeda and the pressures by the Syrian regime create legitimacy for both parties.
