Muqtada al-Sadr stresses on Kurds-Shiites strategic agreement

9.5.2013 – KURDPRESS / MESOP – Najaf– The leader of Sadr Movement Muqtada al-Sadr stressed the strategic agreement between the Kurds and Shiites in Iraq has to be preserved.

Meeting a visiting high-ranking Kurdistan Region’s co-ruling Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) delegation, Sadr said the agreement between the Kurds and Shiites should be preserved. Expressing his hope that the third Arab-Kurd scholars’ congress would succeed, Sadr stressed the conferences will boost ties between cultures and will finally stabilize the country. PUK Political Office Chief Malla Bakhtiar, however, expressed his worry about tensions among Iraq’s races, warning that the historic ties between the Kurds and Shiites are at risk. Bakhtiar further hailed Sadr’s peaceful outlook towards the disputes.
