A protocol has been signed between Turkey’s Hakkari University and Iraq’s Salahaddin University in Arbil, allowing  exchange of students and academics.

The agreement is expected to contribute to teaching departments for Turkish and Kurdish language.

It also aims to establish a series of goals including creating joint education programs within scientific and academic cooperation,  organizing cultural and academic activities as well as research and development projects between universities, help to raise academicians, create mutual pool of academicians, establishing reciprocal student quotas and joint/double diploma opportunities.

Hakkari University President Prof. Dr. Ebubekir Ceylan said the program will highly contribute to their Kurdish Teaching Department that is planned to open soon. “Turkey is Iraq’s biggest economic partner. Turkey is also the biggest construction contractor in Iraq. We, as two universities, are adding the educational aspect to this. The protocol will help improve the cultural interactions between the two countries. It will also contribute to our soon-to-open Kurdish Language Teaching department immensely. We will also help to increase the interest on Turkish language in Iraq.”
