MESOPOTAMIA NEWS : BIDEN’S GOODWILL GESTURE TO IRAN – US transfers 3 huge logistic bases from Qatar to Jordan – gesture to Iran

Jul 7, 2021 @ 18:00 Iraqi militias, DEBKA FILES ISRAEL

One of the three huge logistics bases which the US military recently dismantled in Qatar and relocated to Jordan was the largest in the world. In the last few days, the US has shut down Army Camp As Sayliyah Main, Army Camp As Sayiliyah South and the Falcon an ammunition supply point.  Their 27 warehouses storing tanks, armored personnel carriers and other equipment were stored in this forward staging post in Qatar for US supplies across the Middle East and as a reserve stock in case hostilities erupted with Iran. Supplies from the three bases, as well as a support mission based there, are now part of the US Central Command Area Support Group-Jordan.

MESOPOTAMIA NEWS INDEPTH : The Other Regional Counter-Revolution

Iran’s Role in the Shifting Political Landscape of the Middle East

By: Danny PostelJuly 7, 2021 NEW POLITICS

The last decade has seen historic political upheavals across the Middle East and North Africa: a tsunami of popular uprisings that have brought down several dictators and led to momentous transformations in political consciousness, if not always to democratic outcomes. But the last decade has also seen a concomitant counter-revolutionary roll-back across the region: authoritarian regimes, entrenched elites, ruling classes, deep states, and reactionary forces have marshalled considerable resources to torpedo these movements from below.[1]

Saudi Arabia’s role as a counter-revolutionary force in the Middle East is widely understood and thoroughly documented. Historian Rosie Bsheer calls the Saudi kingdom “a counter-revolutionary state par excellence,” indeed one that was “consolidated as such.”[2] The Saudi monarchy has gone into counter-revolutionary overdrive since the onset of the Arab uprisings, scrambling to thwart popular movements and keep the region’s dictators in power — from Egypt and Bahrain to Yemen and Sudan (and beyond).[3]

What is less understood is the counter-revolutionary role that Iran plays in the region’s politics.

MESOPOTAMIA NEWS : GOOD OLD JULIAN REICHELT UNCOVERS  ANGELA MERKEL / „Merkel chooses China over her own party on Huawei“, titelte „Bloomberg“ vor wenigen Tagen.

MESOPOTAMIA NEWS ANALYSIS – Saudi Arabia and Syria: Calculating a New Route?

  & Carmit Valensi- Yoel Guzansky – ISRAEL   – INSS insight no.1494, July 11, 2021

The Gulf states are gradually changing their approach: those that formerly supported the opposition to Assad are slowly reconciling to the reality that has emerged and drawing closer to the regime. Although not necessarily a welcome development, it may include an opportunity for Israel. Much rests on the question whether the process will continue, and whether it will help to weaken Iran’s grip on Syria.

MESOPOTAMIA NEWS WORLD NEMY NO. 1 RED CHINA  – Becoming Strong – The New Chinese Foreign Policy

By Yan Xuetong July/August 2021 FOREIGN AFFAIR S

In March, China’s top diplomat, Yang Jiechi, made headlines when he told U.S. officials at a summit in Alaska that they did “not have the qualification . . . to speak to China from a position of strength.” Even after years of heightened tensions between Beijing and Washington, the remark seemed unusually harsh, especially coming from a seasoned diplomat. The setting, too, was noteworthy: Yang was speaking at the first high-level diplomatic meeting between China and the United States since U.S. President Joe Biden entered the White House. It seemed like an unmistakable warning to the new administration.

At home, Yang’s comment circulated widely on social media, resonating with the belief of many Chinese that their country has found its voice on the global stage. International media read the statement as reflective of a post-pandemic China: ambitious and outspoken in its claim to global leadership.
