Vor wenigen Tagen habe ich noch auf ein Interview in der Sendung „Hard Talk“ verwiesen, das der EU-Wirtschaftskommissar Gentiloni der BBC gegeben hatte. Mehrmals sprach Gentiloni davon, dass es nach Corona keine Rückkehr zur Normalität geben würde, sondern das Ziel wäre, die entstandene Lage zu nutzen, um in Europa eine andere Gesellschaft zu etablieren: grüner, nachhaltiger, inklusiver.

October is a fateful month for Michel Aoun. Four years ago this month he was elected Lebanon’s president by the country’s parliament. Thirty years ago this month, he survived an assassination attempt, and was later forced out of the Lebanese Presidential Palace by an invading Syrian Arab Army supported by allied Lebanese militia.[1] That was the end of two years of Aoun serving as interim Lebanese prime minister ruling over mostly Christian-populated parts of East Beirut and Central Lebanon. Aoun’s career recalls that of France’s Marshal Petain, a World War One hero turned World War Two villain, a man of consequence certainly, but much of it bitter.[2]

06.10.2020 – MESOP – Vielleicht ist es von einem Mittel- oder Westeuropäer etwas zu viel verlangt, noch zu wissen, was vor mehr als 30 Jahren in Berg-Karabach geschah. Wahrscheinlich hatten auch die meisten Deutschen diese Weltgegend bis vor wenigen Tagen nicht mehr – wie es gern umgangssprachlich heißt – „auf dem Schirm“. Inzwischen hat es Berg-Karabach mit den Kontrahenten Aserbaidschan und Armenien durch einen für die meisten hiesigen Medienkonsumenten schwer verständlichen Krieg wieder auf prominente Plätze in allen Nachrichten geschafft. Wenn viele Medienkonsumenten etwas nicht verstehen, weil es dazu eventuell noch der einen oder anderen Information aus dem Archiv bedarf, wäre es Aufgabe der Medienschaffenden – zumindest der Journalisten unter ihnen – genau diese Erklärungen zu liefern. Wenn man jetzt sagt, dazu sei etwas Recherche nötig, genau das, was einst als eine der wichtigsten Tugenden des Journalismus galt, ist das beinahe übertrieben. Zumindest in den Medienhäusern, die schon länger hier existieren, dürfte ein Blick ins Archiv reichen.

Fierce fighting between Azerbaijani and Armenian forces represents a dramatic escalation in longstanding tensions, with the two countries on an all-out war footing following over a week of battle. Turkey is developing an increasing variety of lethal armed drones, ranging from large, high-flying, bomb-laden ones to very small, low-flying UAVs that can form deadly swarms.
In recent years, Turkey has developed an impressive local drone industry from the ground up. Armed Turkish-built Bayraktar TB2 and Anka-S drones have proven themselves in combat in operations in Syria, Iraq, and as far afield as Libya.
Ankara is presently building a variety of bigger and smaller drones that will fulfill a multitude of different roles for the Turkish military.
