In jüngster Zeit sind mehrere neue Publikationen zur deutsch-israelischen Beziehungsgeschichte erschienen. Neben verschiedenen Zeitschriftenbeiträgen beschäftigen sich nicht weniger als drei seit 2019 veröffentlichte Monographien mit dem Thema.[1] Hierzu gehört Lorena De Vitas Buch Israelpolitik. German-Israeli Relations, 1949–69, das auf einer Dissertation an der Aberystwyth University in Wales beruht.
De Vitas Buch hebt sich von anderen Untersuchungen ab, da es die Beziehungen zwischen Israel und den beiden deutschen Staaten in den Blick nimmt, anstatt lediglich auf Westdeutschland zu fokussieren.

The group’s representative in Tehran told Al-Monitor in an exclusive interview that, this time, his group along with other Palestinian factions “applied a strategic shift in the concept of resistance, from defending Gaza against Israeli attacks to defending all Palestinians living in historical Palestine.”
Khaled al-Qaddumi told Al-Monitor that another strategic change is that “the resistance will not allow Israeli occupation forces to attack civilian targets in al-Quds [Jerusalem].”

Turkey’s invasion of Iraqi Kurdistan intensified last week, as Turkish forces carried out a barrage of airstrikes on Kista village that forced a complete evacuation. Simultaneously, the Turkish government announced its forces killed a senior commander of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) named Sofi Nurettin on Monday, though the PKK quickly denied Turkey’s claim. Meanwhile, PKK General Commander Murat Karayilan again accused Turkey of using chemical weapons in Avashin and Metina and released a video he claimed would provide a detailed explanation of Turkey’s ongoing operations in Iraqi Kurdistan.

- BAXTIYAR ÇELÊ – MEXMÛR – Dienstag, 18 Mai 2021, 16:36 – Das Geflüchtetenlager Mexmûr in Südkurdistan (Nordirak) ist seit seiner Gründung im Jahr 1998 ein Angriffsziel feindlich gesinnter Kräfte. In den vergangenen Tagen machten die Erklärungen von Vertretern der faschistischen Machtelite der Türkei, zum Beispiel des türkischen Verteidigungsministers Hulusi Akar, die Bevölkerung Mexmûrs erneut zu einem wichtigen Teil der politischen Agenda.
Das Camp Mexmûr selbst ist nicht viel größer als eine Kleinstadt. Der Grund dafür, dass die dortige Bevölkerung derart massiven und permanenten Angriffen ausgesetzt ist, liegt in der Selbstorganisierung ihres Lebens entlang der Ideen Abdullah Öcalans.

Die humanitäre Lage im Gazastreifen spitzt sich nach einer Woche israelischer Angriffe zu, es gibt Zehntausende Binnenflüchtlinge. Die Forderungen nach einer Waffenruhe werden lauter. Zu Beginn der zweiten Kriegswoche im Gazastreifen spitzt sich dort die humanitäre Lage zu. Eine große Wasseraufbereitungsanlage ist aus Strommangel außer Betrieb, Abwasserrohrsysteme sind zerstört, das Trinkwasser wird knapp. Der Diesel für das Elektrizitätswerk geht zur Neige. Höchstens fünf Stunden Strom soll es jetzt noch am Tag geben.
Mehr als 40.000 Binnenflüchtlinge haben sich aus den besonders heftig bombardierten Teilen des Küstenstreifens in Sicherheit gebracht. Viele von ihnen haben sich in Schulen der Vereinten Nationen begeben, die darauf nicht vorbereitet sind. Am Dienstag öffnete Israel die Übergänge Erez und Kerem Shalom für eine kurze Zeit für Lastwagen humanitärer Organisationen, schloss sie nach einem Mörserangriff in der Gegend jedoch wieder.

MAY 19, 2021 BY JOSEPH FITSANAKIS INTEL ORG – THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT of Defense maintains a “secret army” of over 60,000 operatives, many of whom work across the world in a clandestine capacity, with fake identities and manufactured backgrounds, according to a new report. Newsweek, which published the report on Monday, said that the Pentagon force is “more than ten times the size” of the clandestine wing of the Central Intelligence Agency, which is commonly associated with carrying out covert operations abroad.

Wie ein Erdbeben habe sich der Bombenangriff angefühlt, sagten die Einwohner der Wehda-Strasse später. Es war etwa ein Uhr in der Nacht zum Sonntag, als das Wohn- und Geschäftsviertel im Zentrum von Gaza von einer langen Reihe heftiger Explosionen erschüttert wurde. Wenig später verkündete die israelische Regierung, die Armee habe in einer Spezialoperation ein Tunnelsystem der Hamas zerstört. Drei Gebäude wurden bei dem Angriff in Trümmer gelegt. Bis zum Abend wurden 42 Tote aus dem Schutt geborgen, unter ihnen 16 Frauen und 10 Kinder.
Der Bombenangriff auf die Wehda-Strasse wirft einmal mehr die Frage nach der Verhältnismässigkeit des Militäreinsatzes auf. Nicht zum ersten Mal im Nahostkonflikt werfen Menschenrechtsaktivisten Israels Streitkräften vor, das humanitäre Völkerrecht zu missachten und Kriegsverbrechen zu begehen. Das Völkerrecht verlangt von Israel wie von jeder Kriegspartei, zwischen Kombattanten und Zivilisten zu unterscheiden und zivile Opfer nach Möglichkeit zu vermeiden.

Ben Caspit AL MONITOR – May 18, 2021 – This operation was supposed to be the jewel in Israel’s crown, the result of impressive, painstaking intelligence collection mapping out the vast network of Hamas tunnels in the northern section of the Gaza Strip, including the fortified, fully equipped bomb shelter for the organization’s leadership. The Islamist group had little idea that everything it was digging underground over the years was being documented by Israeli intelligence in order to compile a bank of bombing targets for future use. Israel had also devised a series of sophisticated ruses designed to force Hamas commanders to flee underground into what the military was dubbing the “metro,” where they would be buried by heavy bombs bringing the tunnels crashing down on their heads.

The planned eviction of Palestinian families from their lands in Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, claimed by Israeli settlers, has shed light on the neighborhood and its history.
Ahmad Melhem AL MONITOR – May 18, 2021 – RAMALLAH, West Bank — Planned evictions in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem, as well as the Israeli attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and Muslim worshippers during the holy month of Ramadan, have been a detonator that triggered a confrontation in the Palestinian territories in the past weeks. The confrontation was quickly transported inside the Green Line (to cities within Israel), and escalated into a war on the Gaza Strip.
Sheikh Jarrah has now become a key to reaching a truce. The Palestinian armed factions have set as a condition that any cease-fire negotiations between them and Israel includes the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood and Al-Aqsa Mosque dossiers.
