MESOPOTAMIA NEWS : ERDOGAN’S DUDE – Transparency International calls for full probe of claims by Turkish mafia boss
- Jun 18 2021 02:32 Gmt+3 AHVAL NEWS – Turkey should fully investigate allegations by mafia boss Sedat Peker of illegal activities in politics, the bureaucracy and the business world, Transparency International said.
“These claims should be investigated by independent judicial organs and probed by an investigatory commission of the parliament” to establish their accuracy, the international anti-corruption body said in a statement on Twitter on Friday.
Turkish officials have denied or ignored a multitude of claims made by Peker about dirty relations between the state, the underworld and several Turkish companies. Peker, 49, is in exile and has aired the allegations in a series of videos published on YouTube since early May.

The reports claim that the defector is cooperating with a U.S. intelligence agency, providing eye-opening intel about the Wuhan Institute of Virology and China’s bioweapons programs.
There are reports that Dong Jingwei defected from China with his daughter Dong Yang in mid-February, flying from Hong Kong to the United States. Dong landed in California, where he contacted the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency to inform officials that he was defecting and could provide inside information about covert Chinese operations, according to a report from Red State, which says, “Dong then ‘hid in plain sight’ for about two weeks before disappearing into DIA custody.”
Dong is a longtime official in China’s Ministry of State Security, also known as the “Guoanbu.”

The Biden White House has temporarily halted a military aid package to Ukraine that would include lethal weapons, a plan originally made in response to aggressive Russian troop movements along Ukraine’s border this spring.
The aid package would be worth up to $100 million, according to four people familiar with internal deliberations.

(June 18, 2021 / JNS) The fact that Hezbollah is deeply embedded in some 200 southern Lebanese villages is well known, but what is less known is the role played by the terror organization’s local administrators.
Now, a new report published on Monday by the Israeli Alma Research and Education Center, a security watchdog, sheds new light on the role of the Rabat, Arabic for “liaison.”
When Hezbollah’s units in southern Lebanon need fuel, food or logistics, it is the Rabat who will deliver, according to the report. When the Iranian-backed organization needs to find a new civilian home to plant rockets in, the Rabat will be there, directing them to the right place.
Maj. (res.) Tal Beeri, who served for 20 years in the IDF’s Military Intelligence Directorate, is now head of Alma’s research department. He told JNS that the Rabat plays a critical role in Hezbollah’s ability to install weapons in civilian areas in Lebanon.

Das glauben Ihre Vorurteile nicht so ganz? Dann sollten Sie ab und zu in „internAA“ schauen, die Mitarbeiterzeitschrift des Auswärtigen Amts, der die Bild-Zeitung in dieser Woche zusätzliche Leser verschaffte. Da gibt es ganze Themenausgaben, die sich unter Überschriften wie „Diversität ist kein Gedöns“, „Wie divers sind wir eigentlich“, „Diversität und gestaltende Außenpolitik“, „Mut zur Vielfalt“, „Vielfalt als Zeichen der Stärke“, „Race and Diplomacy“ mit den zentralen Fragen der deutschen Außenpolitik beschäftigen. Die muss sich zum Glück ja nur noch am Rande um die Verfolgung – horribile dictu – nationaler Interessen kümmern.
Viel wichtiger, diesen Eindruck vermittelt jedenfalls „internAA“, scheint zu sein, dass die deutschen Diplomaten im Ausland als „ein authentischeres Abbild der deutschen Gesellschaft“ erscheinen. Deshalb „bekennt sich auch das Auswärtige Amt dazu, den Anteil der Beschäftigten mit Migrationshintergrund innerhalb der Belegschaft zu steigern“. Den Befehl dazu erteilte die Regierung Merkel dem ganzen öffentlichen Dienst. Das AA aber befolgt diese Weisung so vorbildlich, als sei sie ein Naturgesetz, wie man es im Editorial der jüngsten Nummer nachlesen kann: „Die Natur lehrt uns, dass diverse Ökosysteme am Ende immer resistenter sind als Monokulturen und Leben ohne Veränderung nicht denkbar ist.“

In den letzten Jahren hat die Türkei ihre Rolle in der autonomen kurdischen Region des Nordiraks stark ausgeweitet. Sie hatte dort jahrzehntelang Stützpunkte unterhalten und ihre Präsenz reicht bis in die 1990er Jahre zurück, als sie in den schwächer werdenden Irak expandieren konnte.
Ankara behauptet, im Nordirak einen „Anti-Terror“-Krieg gegen die Arbeiterpartei Kurdistans (PKK) zu führen. Der PKK-Terrorismus in der Türkei hat sich jedoch fast auf Null reduziert, weswegen Ankara für die Rechtfertigung seiner expansiven Rolle darauf zurückgreift, Geschichten über „Terrorismus“ zu erfinden und die PKK für Vorfälle verantwortlich zu machen, mit denen sie wahrscheinlich gar nichts zu tun hat.

As a teenager, I saw old-stone American university buildings on TV, and was enthralled by their dignified appearance. Later, I came across a book in my hometown that explained that the American university was a special place, unlike its Chinese counterpart, as devoted to the cultivation of the enduring longings of the human soul. To assist in man’s hunger to know, to understand, and to seek truth, is its highest mission.
The longing for a spot in one of those buildings tormented me for decades. I longed to meet great minds and curious souls and explore the essential ideas with them. How could one not yearn for a place where students were challenged to think the unthinkable, to question convention, and to debate each other on ideas, when she had been imprisoned for years in the Chinese classroom where all subjects were stripped of all elements of beauty and imagination and left with only naked utility?
Two decades later, I sit in one of those buildings, having claimed my spot only to find that thinking is discouraged, dissent suppressed, and ideological loyalty is the prerequisite for flourishing in the institution of higher learning.
