Germany did not shelter Ocalan, Clinton asked to hand him to Turkey: Italy ex- PM
18.5.2013 – KURDPRESS / MESOP – The Italian former Prime Minister Massimo D’Alema revealed the Germany did not want to shelter now jailed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Ocalan in 1998 and his country secretly transferred him out of the country.
Ocalan did not stay in Italy for 66 days. We found his fake and secretly transferred him out of the country, D’Alema said, adding that the then- German government didn’t allow Ocalan to return to Karlsruhe. The next problem was the US president Bill Clinton who told us in a phone call to hand Ocalan to Turkey but we declined, D’Alema said, expressing his optimism about the peace talks between Turkey government and PKK. “As an Italian left politician I back the peace atmosphere and congratulate to Ankara,” he went on to say, stressing the Turkey Kurds have been long for years to see the day.
