In a rare public speech on Monday, Assad indicated that no talks could be held before a total defeat of rebels, “When gunmen suffer, when they are defeated, the term cease-fire happens between armies and states, but it doesn’t go between a state and terrorists.”Assad’s position irritated Moscow, who are formally working with the UN and the International Syria Support Group to pursue the “cessation of hostilities” and talks between the regime and the opposition-rebel bloc. MESOP REPORT : PKK KIDNAPPS JOURNALIST & KILLS THEM – Kurdish PKK rebels abduct three Turkish journalists: report

ANKARA,— AFP – 21 Febr 2016 – Three journalists working for Turkish state-run news agency Anatolia were abducted Sunday by members of the militant Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in the Kurdish region in southeastern Turkey, the agency said. Anatolia said that the incident occurred in Nusaybin in Mardin province in in Turkish Kurdistan, where the security forces have been conducting a vast operation aimed at flushing PKK rebels out of the area. The agency is Turkey’s largest and has a large network of journalists in Turkey and abroad.  MESOP Germany: Migrant Crime Skyrockets

The actual number of crimes in Germany committed by migrants in 2015 may exceed 400,000.

The report does not include crime data from North Rhine-Westphalia, the most populous state in Germany and also the state with the largest number of migrants. North Rhine-Westphalia’s biggest city is Cologne, where, on New Year’s Eve, hundreds of German women were sexually assaulted by migrants.

Migrants committed 208,344 crimes in 2015, according to a confidential police report that was leaked to the German newspaper, Bild. This figure represents an 80% increase over 2014 and works out to around 570 crimes committed by migrants every day, or 23 crimes each hour, between January and December 2015.

The actual number of migrant crimes is far higher, however, because the report, produced by the Federal Criminal Police Office (Bundeskriminalamt, BKA), includes only crimes that have been solved (aufgeklärten Straftaten). According to Statista, the German statistics agency, on average only around half of all crimes committed in Germany in any given year are solved (Aufklärungsquote).
