Russia has deployed a dozen warships (Al Jazeera) to the Mediterranean, the country’s largest naval build-up since intervening in Syria in 2015, according to the Russian newspaper Izvestia. The Syrian regime is believed to be readying an assault on the last major rebel enclave in northern Idlib. Moscow has accused Washington and its allies of preparing for new strikes against Syrian government forces; the Pentagon has denied the claim (RFE/RL).
