MESOPOTAMIA NEWS : French Troops Support Kurdish Forces in Syria with Artillery: Report

BasNews –  20/05/2018 – Middle East –  ERBIL – French special forces have stationed six artillery batteries in a US-led Kurdish forces-held area near border areas between Iraq and Syria, said a report on Sunday.

The batteries, according to Anadolu Agency, were installed north of the Baguz village in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor province, an area controlled by the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) which is reviewed by Ankara as an extension of the Kurdistan Workers’Party (PKK).  The PKK is designated as a “terrorist organization” by Turkey.

A few days earlier, a convoy of 20 vehicles with about 70 French servicemen allegedly stopped at a checkpoint belonging to Syrian government troops in northeastern Syrian province of Hasakah.-    After Turkish army conducted an air and ground military operation against the Kurdish enclave of Afrin in Syria, France promised to support the Kurdish forces in other parts of the country which were under threat of attack by Ankara, as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has many times threatened to extend the operation to Manbij and Hasakah.
