Russia says US Troops Possible to Leave Syria at Any Moment

BasNews 2021/07/11 – 00:34 Middle East  ERBIL – The United States forces could withdraw from Syria at any moment, Russian Special Presidential Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev said during an interview.

“I think that the withdrawal of US troops from Syria may take place at any time,” he pointed out in an interview with TASS News Agency.

The withdrawal of the US forces from Afghanistan signals the Syrian Kurds that the United States may reach a point to decide to leave Syria, too, Lavrentyev added.

“You must remember that former US President Donald Trump had decided to withdraw troops but his decision was later reconsidered and delayed,” the Russian envoy noted.

The Syrian Kurdish fighters are known to be close allies of the United States. However, they began criticizing Washington when it gave Turkey a greenlight to the country’s military incursion into northeast of Syria to target the Syrian Kurdish forces in 2019.
