MESOP : Syrian Kurdish Councils to Reach an Agreement on Rojava
16.10.2014 – Hoshmand Sadiq & Diyako Murad – BasNews, Dohuk – Syrian Kurdistan political parties continue their negotiation in Dohuk to form a committee and write a draft agreement, which will be a principle for governing jointly in Syrian Kurdistan. The draft agreement would be for the parties to negotiate among themselves and all the Kurdish political parties have promised Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani to reach an agreement in a near future. On Wednesday, The Kurdish National Council in Syria (KNCS) and the People’s Council of Western Kurdistan (Syrian Kurdistan) started their meeting and negotiation in Dohuk and both sides agreed to form a council consists of six members.
Member of the Kurdish National Council in Syria (KNCS) Ahmed Suleiman told BasNews that the joint council will consist of six members that each side would have three persons in the new council. “The duty of these six members would be to prepare a draft agreement based on both previous agreements between them in Erbil that held in 2012 and 2013. The new council will put the points of both Erbil agreements inside the draft agreement that now both sides agreed on,” added Suleiman. Su’ud Mala, Ahmed Sleman and Feysal Youssef are the chosen members of the new council from the KNC, but People’s Council of Western Kurdistan still have not chosen their representatives in the joint council. Member of People’s Council of Western Kurdistan Alldar Khalil told BasNews that both sides have written their suggestions and demands in the draft.
“Now, there is a new reality in the Syrian Kurdistan, especially after the formation of administration cantons and the attacks of the Islamic State (IS) militants on Syrian Kurdistan. I hope that both sides will reach an agreement,” said Khalil. Hamid Darbandi, the Kurdistan Region Official responsible for Syrian Kurdish Affairs told BasNews that, “Both sides have told Barzani that they will not come out of the meeting and negotiation without reaching any agreement.” Commenting on the draft agreement, Darbandi stated that the draft expected to be finished in a next a few days. The main dispute points between both sides were the creation of the administration cantons as well as not having a joint forces in the Syrian Kurdistan to encompass forces from both sides in order to defend Kurdish cities in the area.
