(Ask for mediation of Donations etc. – Aid for Syrian Refugees in Domiz Camp, Kurdistan Region, Iraq

They survived the war but can they survive the cold winter?

More than 60,000 Syrian refugees, including children, who fled the brutal and increasingly sectarian civil war in their country are sheltering at the Domiz refugee camp in the Kurdistan Region in Iraq.

They have been welcomed and supported by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the local community. But they desperately need more help as the winter closes in and the number of refugees rises daily. Children and adults are sheltering in tents but they need blankets, warm clothing and stoves if they are to survive the harsh winter.

Let’s not forget the children of Syria this winter

The UNHCR estimates that more than half a million refugees have now fled the escalating violence and about 3,000 new refugees are crossing the border into neighbouring countries every day, including the Kurdistan Region in Iraq. It is estimated that up to 1 million Syrian refugees will need help by the end of the first half of 2013.

Many of you in the Kurdish community in Britain have contacted the KRG UK Representation asking how you can help. The Barzani Charity Foundation distributes goods to the refugees and will pay for the cost of shipping items from the UK to the refugees.
