MESOP REPORT : The Hague to Investigate Kurdish Yezidi Genocide / International Criminal Court (ICC) expected to announce a decision soon

3 Feb 2015 – The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague has sent a letter to the Kurdish Human Rights Committee in the Kurdistan Parliament in response to an appeal from the committee to investigate the Kurdish Yazidi and Christian minorities genocide, committed by Islamic State (IS) in northern Iraq. As soon as a decision is taken on whether there is a reasonable basis to proceed with an investigation, we will advise you promptly and we will provide reasons for the decision,” read a letter by the ICC to the Kurdish Human Rights Committee. After Islamic State militants took control of Mosul June 2014, they cut through Iraq, taking territory in the Nineveh, Salahaddin, Anbar provinces and parts of Diyala province. Recently several mass graves of Yazidis have been found in the Sinjar area, as well as some others in the southern Kirkuk towns of Jalawla and Saadia.
