MESOP : PRETTY NEW – PYD/PKK REFUSES “GIFTS” BY SYRIAN REGIME – Kurds refuse Syrian regime’s propaganda about controlling areas

ARA News – 31 Mar 2015 – Suruc, Turkey – Jiwan Ibrahim, Chief of the Kurdish Asayish forces in Rojava (Syrian Kurdish areas), warned civilians on Monday in the recently regained towns of Tel Brak and Tel Hamis in the southern countryside of Qamishli in Hasakah province, of what he described “misleading practices” of the Syrian regime.

In a statement published online, Ibrahim addressed the people of Tel Brak and Tel Hamis saying: “To our people in Tel Brak and Tel Hamis, the Baathist regime (Assad’s regime) in Qamishli and Hasakah is spreading baseless news that it took entire control of both towns and handed them over to Kurdish forces. However, Kurds have fought against the radical group of the Islamic State (IS/ISIL) and forced the militants to withdraw from the towns, and Kurds are the ones who protect these towns. The regime militias weren’t engaged in the fighting against the IS group and they won’t provide any security assistance to the civilians.”

In a related development, over the past two days, the regime-linked governor of Hasakah, Muhammad Za’al Ali, threatened government employees in the town of Tel Brak of dismissal from their jobs if they did not return to their departments according to the regime’s recently released regulations.

Ali’s statement came during a meeting with a number of governmental staff and school teachers in the town of Tel Brak. Coinciding with the control of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) over Tel Hamis and Tel Brak, pro-regime media sources published news about the regime forces control of the town of Tel Brak, which was denied by many Kurdish political and military authorities who spoke to ARA News at the time. Speaking to ARA News in Qamishli, Kurdish activist Shiyar Hussain said that the Kurdish military forces distrust the pro-regime forces in the area, but they await an opportunity for an international change regarding the ongoing Syrian crisis.

“The Kurds are dealing with the pro-regime forces with a highly diplomatic policy, especially that the latter possess an air force which the Kurds lack,” he added, pointing out that the Kurds cannot pass over this reality. Noteworthy, the Kurdish Asayish in Hasakah province issued a statement on March 23, calling on the youth to join the YPG ranks in the town of Tel Brak, which was regained by Kurds on February 28, 2015.
