March 14, 2015 – ARA News – Damascus, Syria – The Syrian Information Minister, Omran al-Zoubi, said Friday that the Kurds are part of the Syrian people, pointing out that a debate about a self-rule in the Syrian Kurdish areas is possible, “as long as it is within the borders of the Syrian state”.

Al-Zoubi said, in a televised interview, that the Kurds are part of the Syrian people, “and since the establishment of an Auto-Administration (which was announced by the Democratic Union Party “PYD” and some allied parties) remains within the Syrian national borders of the Syrian state, it will be possible. “This issue is being discussed with the government in accordance with the laws, regulations and the Syrian constitution,” he said. “The Kurds confront terrorism in the northern areas, the same as we (Syrian government) do in Damascus, Aleppo and other areas,” al-Zoubi said. “They (Kurds) are part of the overall national confrontation against terrorism,” the Syrian Minister stated praising the efforts of the Kurds against the radical group of Islamic State (IS/ISIS).

He claimed that the Syrian army leadership and the Ministry of Defense supported the Syrian Kurdish fighters in the face of IS terrorist group, “and if they deny it, the Syrian state can prove the support provided to them”.

The PYD-linked Auto-Administration runs public institutions in some neighborhoods of the cities of Hasakah and Qamishli, as well as the cities of Kobane and Afrin in Aleppo province, northern Syria.
