MESOP : NO CHANCE FOR KOBANE WITHOUT PESH & US LED COALITION (JOINT FORCES)

WEST KURDISTAN (SYRIA) – After Peshmerga Departure, ISIS Emboldened, Returns to Kobane / This comes two days after the departure of the Peshmerga forces from Kobane towards Iraqi Kurdistan, who have been backing Syrian peers in anti-IS operations in K0bane over the last few months. ARA News – 2015-05-03 18:20 GMT – Kobane, Syria — The joint forces (YPG and FSA rebels) repelled an attack launched from several directions by militants of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) south of the city of Kobane, northern Syria, military sources reported on Saturday.Speaking to ARA News in Kobane, Sarhad Abbas, a fighter in the ranks of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) said that IS terrorists attacked headquarters of the joint forces in the vicinity of the town of Sirrin south of Kobane in an attempt to ease the pressure on their fellow insurgents trapped inside the town, “but the joint forces were able to repel their attack and kill at least seven jihadists.”

Abbas added that the U.S.-led coalition’s warplanes targeted several IS armored vehicles, which were heading from the Tishrin dam towards the town of Sirrin, causing the death of entire crews in the convoy. In the meantime, on Saturday the YPG Media Center issued a statement, of which ARA News received a copy, saying that Friday evening the terrorist group launched several attacks on the YPG trenches in southern Kobane, targeting the villages of Kani, Sabta Araban and Zerik .

“However, our units (YPG) repelled the terrorist attacks, but we could not verify the group’s losses during the operation.”Subsequent to an attempt by IS militants to destroy the Qara Qozak bridge in the countryside of Kobane, mutual shelling between the hardline group and the Kurdish forces continued on both sides of the Euphrates River in the vicinity of the bridge during the past few days. This comes two days after the departure of the Peshmerga forces from Kobane towards Iraqi Kurdistan, who have been backing Syrian peers in anti-IS operations in K0bane over the last few months. The decision of the Peshmerga to leave Kobane came after the completion of their to mission to liberate the city from IS militants.

Kurdish activists emphasized that the Peshmerga departure has encouraged IS militants to fight back. Unlike the Peshmerga, the YPG and supporting rebels who are defending the area don’t possess the heavy weapons necessary to effectively deter IS from attacking Kobane.
