MESOP : NEWS FOR DAY-DREAM-BELIEVERS – Russia optimistic about Syrian negotiations in Geneva

ARA News – 17 Apr 2015 – Geneva – Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva said on Thursday that the talks between the Syrian regime and the opposition “may succeed this time”, and lead to the formation of a united front against the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS).

Alexei Aurodavkin said at a meeting in Geneva that there is “a glimpse of hope to achieve the best results out of the negotiations between the two Syrian parties”, and that negotiators from the mainstream opposition and the Syrian government have recognized that there is no military solution to the four-year civil war, which has so far claimed the lives of more than 220,000 people. He added that the opposition does not have a military base, and this will lead to the success of the negotiations, and that the Free Syrian Army (FSA) was partially defeated, when part of it joined the Islamic State. “As such, the opposition should be aware of the limited possibilities it has to win the war.” The Russian Ambassador explained that the Syrian rebels should not focus on persons (in reference to Assad), but on the goal of stopping the bloodshed above anything else( along with fighting ISIS), pointing out that some opponents are no longer insistent on the necessity of departure or maintenance of Bashar al-Assad in power.Noteworthy, the Syrian crisis has entered its fifth year amid increasing numbers of dead and missing in the ranks of the conflicting parties, beside the emergence and the growing strength of al-Qaeda-linked groups and the radical group of the Islamic State.
