MESOP MULLAHS IN FOREFRONT : Tehran will host next Syria peace talks

18 March 2017 – Two-day expert level negotiations on finding a settlement to Syria crisis is scheduled to begin in the Iranian capital on April 18.

Delegations from Iran, Turkey and Russia, the three main countries of Astana talks on Syria, issued a joint statement in the Kazakh capital on Thursday underlining the need to keep the ceasefire regime established in the war-hit country, IRNA reported.

The statement also said that discussions have been made on international support for minesweeping operations in Syria’s historical sites registered in UNESCO.

Confidence-building measures as well as efforts to find a lasting settlement to the crisis in Syria were also on the agenda of discussions.

The statement said that the two-day expert-level talks will begin in Tehran on April 18 and the high-level talks will be held in Astana on May 3-4.

Representatives from the Syrian government, the opposition groups and other parties involved (the observers) can also be invited to the next round of talks, the statement added.
