MESOP MIDEAST WATCH:Turkish Jets Heavily Bombard Mount Asos in Sulaymaniyah

15.10.2021ERBIL — Turkish warplanes once again on Friday carried out multiple airstrikes against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) positions on Mount Asos and nearby villages.

No casualties were reported according to local officials who said the airstrikes had hit the vicinity of Enze, Qalatookan, Tootma, Shinkai, Kwerakan, Safra, and Zarwan villages.

Kamaran Hassan, Mayor of Mawat district, told Kurdistan 24 that the airstrikes had begun at around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, and continued for several hours.

Earlier the day, similar airstrikes were reported from the mountainous areas around Choman district, northeast Erbil province, where the PKK fighters also have positions.

Turkey has stepped up its ground and aerial operations against the PKK inside the borders of the Kurdistan Region since January 2021. It has so far caused multiple civilian casualties which are protested by the Iraqi government.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has repeatedly called on Turkey and PKK to avoid using its territories as their battleground for settling their disputes.
