MESOP MIDEAST WATCH: News Channels Affiliated with Pro-Iran Militias Mocked about Fake Israeli General Killed in Erbil
ERBIL 16-3-2022— The news channels known for close links to the Iran-backed Shia militias of Iraq were mocked after they presented a comedian as an Israeli general allegedly killed during the recent missile attack in Erbil.
Al-Nujaba TV, among many other news organizations of the Shia militias, claimed that last Sunday’s Iranian missile attack in Erbil killed a senior member of Mossad. It identified the alleged target as “Haniramzi”.
However, the photo that was published by the news organizations and the name of the claimed slain general, soon revealed the baselessness of the article.
“Haniramzi” or “Hani Ramzi” is the name of a famous Egyptian comedian who soon reacted to refute the report and ask for correction.
Meanwhile, the photo attributed to the alleged Israeli general is revealed to be another comedian who plays the role of Hani Ramzi’s father in 2005 film titled “Mr. Abu al-Arab Arrives”.
The widespread mocking on social media, however, forced the news channels of the Shia militias to remove the articles without providing any clarifications.
