Today, the media center of the Syrian Democratic Forces issued a statement, revealing the outcome of the Turkish occupation’s crimes and attacks on northern and eastern Syria during February, in which it said:
“Despite the serious repercussions left by the devastating earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey and the international calls to reduce violence to facilitate relief operations, the continuation of aggressive practices by the Turkish occupation against our regions in northern and eastern Syria is still a priority in the policies of the ruling regime in Turkey and its mercenary armed gangs.”
In the occupied areas in northern Syria, where the occupation and its mercenaries resorted once again to replacing sympathy with the earthquake victims with war and hatred against our regions and escalating aggressive attacks.
During the period following the disaster of the earthquake on February 06, the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries launched 24 attacks with heavy weapons and tanks, as well as Turkish reconnaissance planes carried out two attacks against civilian targets in our regions, and it was recorded that these planes flew more than 348 times over the region, in addition to 27 times that they violated the Syrian airspace.
In addition, the occupation once again resorted to its dirty intelligence methods, as it was involved in detonating an explosive device in a civilian car in Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo, and another in the city of Hasakah.
In February, the Turkish attacks caused the death of four civilians, including a 70-year-old displaced man from Afrin, in addition to wounding three people, including a woman. These attacks also caused extensive damage to civilians’ property and farms, and prevented them from reaching their agricultural crops.
To cover up its crime, the occupation resorted once again to fabricating lies to justify the killings of civilians, as media outlets affiliated with Turkish intelligence claimed to have (killed) a hypothetical member of our forces who was charged with being behind the Istanbul attack, called Khalil Munji. We confirm that the aforementioned person has no connection with our forces. He is a civilian far removed from military and political events, and the murder that affected him is added to the record of crimes committed by the occupation and our people.
With the continuation of the Turkish aggression and its criminality, which causes more people’s lives to be exhausted in the region, the options of our forces in response are still dependent on moral and humanitarian motives, which are trying to provide more help to people in the affected areas, including restraint and not being drawn into Turkish provocation attempts.
The Turkish occupation believes that the preoccupation of the international community and humanitarian organizations with the earthquake disaster is a fruitful opportunity to avoid their pressures with regard to preventing aggression on our regions and discourage Ankara from continuing preparations for a possible invasion that it insists on launching during the coming period, in the absence of international legal horizons to hold the occupation and its mercenaries accountable for their crimes against the people of the region. Including displacement, demographic change and deliberate killing.
Based on this, we renew the call to the international community and international human rights organizations to carry out their tasks in holding the occupation and its mercenaries accountable for their crimes against humanity by exploiting the earthquake catastrophe in escalation and killing and implementing their dirty plans, as well as we call for the development of effective and real mechanisms that prevent the occupation from continuing its attacks in light of the humanitarian conditions in which it is living. The region, and the growing security threats posed by the terrorist organization ISIS, which for its part is trying to exploit the humanitarian conditions related to the earthquake disaster to reactivate, organize and carry out mass attacks.
